This is a photograph of a pig’s heart we dissected before the dissection. This artifact is for the internal systems unit, where we recently learned more about the circulatory system and the heart. I selected this artifact because it was the first dissection done in our class and it allowed us to see an example of a heart and how it is important to the internal system. This is significant for it shows some of what hands-on work the class did to learn more about how the heart works, its valves, ventricles, atriums and other sorts of parts that are used to keep our hearts pumping. The knowledge we obtained from this dissection can now be applied to real life concepts, for example, any students who wish to become surgeons or doctors will have to know how the heart works and looks so it can be comprehended by someone who does not know much about the heart. This helped our class learn more about the unit by being able to get hands-on experience on how the heart looks inside. This will allow a physical picture that the class can remember, and it helps learn more about how the heart is a key organ to all of the internal organs and system.
