Sid Altman was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 7th, 1939. He has studied biology, physics and chemistry and has achieved a BSc (Physics) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD in biophysics from the University of Colorado. He currently works as a head Biology professor at Yale University in Connecticut. He has made the scientific discovery about an enzyme chemical reaction that occurs in RNA called catalysis. This discovery allowed a way to beat troublesome life forms like the virus that causes the common cold. His discovery awarded him the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award in 1990 and many more.
